Searching for Whales Beyond North America's Most Eastern Point

What swims up to 38 kilometres per hour, lives an average of 60 years, and can hold its breath for up to 20 minutes? The Minke whale; and our goal today was to snorkel with them! Newfoundland's coastlines are renowned for whale watching, primarily Minke and Humpback.

I was eager to hear the Humpback's song, something scientists are still trying to understand. The complex and beautiful sounds they emit travel enormous distances through our vast oceans.

Dorsal fins emerged from the water, Minkes! Then a tail! Humpbacks! We watched their tails kick-up in the air for a dive and grabbed our masks and fins...
