I am standing on an outcrop, along grassy slopes and beautiful cliffs overlooking the ocean. I look down into the grass-covered valley and see a tin cup tied with a string to a post near a rushing brook. Our guide tells me that the water in the brook is fed by a clear natural spring.
Well, that's a wonderful thing to have in your backyard, I thought. But what I’m really impressed with, and inspired by, is that tin cup on the string, placed there by someone thinking of others who might wander by and need a bit of water. That cup to me represents the spirit of these proud people—their ingenuity, generosity, hard work and friendship.
To all Newfoundlanders and Labradoreans, thank you for sharing your tin cup with us.
